Can anyone tell me is there a correct paint code for a 1981 orange jota or is it a case of getting it matched by a paint shop.Assuming it is still its original colour
A few years ago (2009) i let make a scan of mine orange 81 Jota because the fr.fender was damaged and needs to be resprayed. The result of the scan showed that the colour of the LAMBORGHINI ARANCIO YMIR is exact the same (orange)colour . There is absolutely no different between the old parts and the new sprayed fender.
1970 Corvette Fire Red Paint Code is just as nice.
In all, we hope, somebody will see us and attempt to miss us in our flash of Flame or Orange but over the Fram Horns and toggling 100 Watts of Head Light Dims may guide you though that needle as save us.
Laverda Orange and Lamborghini or Corvette Flame Red is a Great Colour for self-preservation but's it's an EXPENSIVE Colour.
I used RAL 2004 on a recent build. I am sure it's brighter than an original colour (however you define/prove that) but it really pops, quite spectacular. In general terms, all modern paintjobs are not particularly original because they are almost always of a much higher quality than the original!
Define correct...
No modern paintjob I have seen is 'authentic', even the crap ones are far too good. In rebuilding the 81 recently I got a pic from Tom of his 1-owner 80 Jota when it was <1yr old. There were no pinstripes on the sidecover. When I asked him why, the reply was "because they'd already fallen off".
Even if you do get the 'correct' code there may still be variations caused by:
1). The undercoat colour
2). The thickness of the top coat
3). Perhaps not all of the bikes were sprayed with the same paint in the same way at the factory over the years?
4). Even the amount of clear coats may have a small effect etc. etc.
My Barcelona was RAL 2008 in 2013 and I thought it a bit milky. Austen's was in RAL 2004 and that is what I have done mine in now after the early season 2014 off.
It's a great colour, but it think it's best kept to racers, caf? racers and specials as it REALY pop's!
I'd choose RAL 2010 for a road bike, richer than 2008 but not too modern a colour.
