<DIV>i am having the wheels for my SF2 respoked.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>if i decided to change the rims for wider ones ....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>what would be the biggest (best) rim / tyre size  package for a standard SF2 frame etc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>or should i stick with standard, as theres no real gain?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>thanks Trigg</DIV>

<DIV>also, where the hubs on SF2's  painted, or in any other way coated?  or just bare alloy?</DIV>

<DIV>Hi Trigg - Leave the front standard and put a 3.5" on rear with a 130 or 140 tyre on it - works great - no clearance problems and plenty of grip - not too pricey - Regards - Phil</DIV>

<DIV>Phil, thanks.  3.5 on the rear? really. this would be about the same as my mates Triumph triple (old one) racer.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Do you recommend any wheel builders?  i am thinking of using Roy Thursby, but have no personal knowledge.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>The bigest rear that looks the same as the Borani style is a 3.00,if you want biger it needs to be a differant style of rim, there avalable up to 6.00,its a shame they dont do bigger Borani style</DIV>

<DIV>Hi Trig - Zim is correct - you would need an Akront or similar - the 3.5" works so well on my racing twins - grip & handling is excellent - see photo - Regards - Phil</DIV>

<DIV>Hi Trigg,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have been using Akront 2.50 front and a 3.00 rear in my SF for the past 20 years. I like the 2.50 front which is perfect with a 110/80, but the 3 inch rear is a bit tight for a 130/80 or 130/70 so I agree with Phil that a 3.5 inch rear would be the better choice, or a 4 inch with a 140 tyre.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It is not really necessary though, the bike will handle great with the 2.15 rims and a 100 front and 110 or 120 rear..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hubs were bare alloy.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Marnix</DIV>

<DIV>Hi Marnix, One of my winter Egli jobs is to put a 3.5" Akront rim on the rear, which is a rim I originally bought for the spaceframe but is unsuitable for a 150 rear tyre. I'm thinking a 130 tyre will fit the bill nicely, presumably there are no chain clearance problems with a tyre of this size? </DIV> <DIV>Bob</DIV>

<DIV>No problem with chain Bob. </DIV> <DIV>130/70 I like the most, especially in combination with the 110/80 front. </DIV> <DIV>Marnix</DIV>

i've had miserable luck trying to find flanged wheels in a 3.5 or wider

i just did a set of 2.15 and 2.50 using flanged Excels fitted with 110/80 and 120/90. works very well.

http://www.motocicliveloci.it/italiano/stock_borrani.htm has a limited number of new borrani rims on hand
what i don't know is the spoke angle for the various numbers.

for me this is the hardest part, once the rim is drilled you have to find the right hub to match the spoke angles or order new rims drilled to the correct angle for the hub you have

at 3.0 and larger the rim has a dropped center so all your original spokes are too long and new ones must be sourced. the spoke threads are rolled not die cut.

cheers,
scott

<DIV>Phil / Marnix etc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so i need a 2.5 front rim and a 3.5 rear rim. with 110/80 front tyre and 130/70  (140) rear.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>any suggestions of tyre types for road use?</DIV>

<DIV>I'd take Bridgestone BT45, that is what I am using on most of my 750 twins, best allround tyre. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Marnix</DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#0000cc>Hi,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc>interesting thread!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc>Any UK rim supplier/wheel builder recommendation?</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc>(2.50 front & 3.50 or 4.0 rear)</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc>Thanks!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#0000cc>Jim</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>well i picked up my 'new' wheels for the SF2 from Hagons in England.  io went for Morad rims in 2.50 inch wide for the front and 3.50 inch for the rear, both are still 18 'tall'.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>now ive got to finalise my tyre choice. Bridgestone BT45 battleaxe get votes on this site. but i am still  considering. the bike will be used on the road and for track days.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so far the suggestions are. any one care to add their wisdom please?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Front  110/80  18</DIV> <DIV>Rear  130/70  18  or 140/70  18.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><IMG height=768 src="/forum/msnphotos/34985-new%5Frims%5Frear%5F350%5Ffront%5F250%5Finch%5F%5F%5Fsmall.jpg" width=1024></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><IMG height=768 src="/forum/msnphotos/34985-old%5F215%5Frim%5Fnext%5Fto%5Fnew%5F350%5Finch%5Frim%5F%5F%5Fsmall.jpg" width=1024>  </DIV>

<DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hi Andy,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>If you'd chose the BT45, which I can recommend for the combination track and road use, then I would take the 130/70.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>A few weeks ago I fitted a 130/80 BT45 on my SF but it is so high that when on the centerstand it would not lift the rear wheel off the ground.. <DIV>Hi Andy</DIV> <DIV>I dont run a 750 but have had great success with similar sizes on a triple, in the form of Pirelli Sport Demon.</DIV> <DIV>Its also a proper speed and load rated tyre and will suit road and track.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Im not saying its better, just what I used extensively for both.</DIV> <DIV>the rear is only available in an 80 profile, so note what Marnix says about centre stand issues.</DIV> <DIV><A target=_top href="http://www.pirelli.co.uk/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page?categoria=/catalog/moto/street/sport_touring&vehicleType=MOTO&product_id=12505&uri=/pirellityre/en_GB/browser/xml/catalog/moto/MOTO_MV_SPORTDEMON_STR.xml">http://www.pirelli.co.uk/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page?categoria=/catalog/moto/street/sport_touring&vehicleType=MOTO&product_id=12505&uri=/pirellityre/en_GB/browser/xml/catalog/moto/MOTO_MV_SPORTDEMON_STR.xml</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A target=_top href="http://www.universal-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle-tyre.php">http://www.universal-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle-tyre.php</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have a couple of unworn Avon SuperVenoms at home, that I pulled off my bike to fit radials, they have done around 500 road miles. 140/70 rear and 110/90 front and were pretty good.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A target=_top href="http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/content/en/pdf/supervenom.pdf">http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/content/en/pdf/supervenom.pdf</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>regards Rob</DIV>

<DIV>Hi Jim - think Trigg's going to Hagons - here's a photo of my 3.5" Akront on SFC style hub - Regards - Phil</DIV></FONT></TD></TR></TABLE></TD></TR><TR class=ThmBgDivider><TD colspan=3> <A class=StdLink target=_blank href="/forum/msnattach/2064">rw-870.JPG</A>  </TD></TR>

<DIV>Jim</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>advice given to me by scribes who know their stuff....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2.5 front rim and 3.5 rear rim.  tyres 110 & 130. seem to be the best ( i think ) but you cant have original style flanges rims at 3.5 so i may compromise on 2.5 and 3.0 to get the original look. (hmmm)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As Phil says Hagon in Essex, England gets the vote from me, been there years, done Laverda before and i've not heard any bad press (hope) Now i live in the Isle of Man, so itll be postage from me. (hope ive made the right choice, costs will be in the region of ?200 per wheel for new rims and spokes. (gulp) Plus of course new tyres as my new continental TKV's wont fit the new rims..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Trigg</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Phil, is that 3.5 Akront flanged?  my eyes cant tell</DIV>

<DIV>Trigg - I suppose it's a "small" flange - not as deep as Borrani</DIV>
