Hi there,
I have a 1978 1200t and can't seem to find the torque settings for the clutch spring bolts. I'm sure someone can help me/ point me in the right direction. Thanks

Wolfie

Hi Wolfie,

It's sad that you have not has a response to your post yet. As you will be aware, this forum is going through a crisis at the moment (not normal, so please don't think we are a bunch of politically argumentative tossers). Under normal circumstances you would have received lots of replies by now.

I honestly do not wish to encourage defection, but the truth is a lot of tech-savvy guys have moved here www.laverdaforum.com/forum and you may wish to join and re-post your query. Joining the site takes a few seconds and does not require a doctors certificate.

Well, I'm still here, so here goes. The bolts were not fitted as standard, originally rivets were fitted, so whenever you see bolts they're a retrofit and don't weren't always threaded as well as a factory installation would have been. Most people used M6x1.0 screws, you shouldn't tighten these to more than 6-9 Nm. It's best to go with the low end and use Loctite. Some hubs were threaded with M7 screws, you may be able to tighten these another 1-2 Nm, but still stay at the low end of the setting and use Loctite.
Whatever you do be sure that the heads of the screws don't hit the inside of the cover, there's not much room in there.

I just nip them up gently 'till they bottom on the posts, you will find that the clutch spring stops them from undoing.

Hi Ken, fuuny, you have made the same mistake as I nearly did (99% wrote my post before realizing). You are talking about the rivets/bolts that hold the round plate down, which in turn retains the cush drives. I'm half cut on Sauvignon Blanc, what's your excuse?

Wolfie, just compress the springs and lightly bottom the screws, just nip em up lightly and use loctite (after de-oiling the threads). The torque on the screw does not effect spring pre-load, that is governed by the height of the pillars. HTH, Hag.

Edit - sorry K, posted at same time.

Thanks for the kind replies, I have looked around and realised the crisis's but as I have replied to queries here I thought I would have sensible replies which of course I have. I also understand the number of replies are not huge, most people have other things in their lives to attend to so any reply is a bonus! Just spent 9 days escorting the Tour of Britain cycle race so dying to get the Lav back on the road....people are asking on Facebook so it must be bad. I will nip up the bolts as suggested.  Thanks again  Wolfie

Fear not Wolfie, at the first whiff of revolution JLO appeared, he's French. They are professionals at this game.  :D
