Another year has passed with shamefully little mileage done. Perhaps for obvious reasons this year but anyway I fancy a change and I?ve never had a classic car so may go down that route.
I?ve had it 6 years now and have done around 2,500 miles on it. Mileage is now 42,646.
I bought it from Tony Wootton who had it as part of his collection of Laverdas. Cosmetically it was pretty much in the condition it is now as it had had a lot of money spent on it previously ? New paint, frame and various parts powder coated, lots of new chrome, fasteners etc. Since then I have gone through it and brought the mechanical bits and pieces up to scratch. Most recently in April this year it went to Ged at GCS Motorcycles who pronounced it fit and well with good compression. He checked / adjusted the valve clearances, fitted a new cam chain, balanced the carbs, fitted a new battery, new spark plugs and got the rear brake working properly. He also had the front wheel machined and a new disk spacer made to sort a brake fluctuation issue.
This is what I?ve carried out in my ownership :-
Carbs stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with new parts by Ducati Paddy ? currently on 120 mains and 58 pilots. I have the some spare jets that will go with the bike.
New Bridgestone BT45 tyres
New clutch plates (steels and frictions) and springs
New clutch pushrods and ball bearings
New clutch lever and mount
New DAM easy clutch mechanism
New Primary chain (duplex)
New plug caps
Rear brake master cylinder rebuilt ? again by Ducati Paddy
New front brake discs (Moto Officina), spacers and pads
530 Chain and Sprocket conversion
Changed fork oil
New front fender / chain guard from Wolfgang Haerter
Numerous oil changes and the oil filter has been cleaned ? using Harley Davidson 20/50 mineral oil
Fitted genuine rear sets ? supplied by Malcolm Cox
New fuel taps
New ND grips
New Keihan silencers ? only fitted this year
Side stand mount (and Kawasaki stand) from Jotajoe fitted
Centre stand removed but included with the bike
New owners manual
I have a box file full with lots of receipts from my ownership and previous owners.
Points to note ? there is a one inch scratch on the top of the tank. It was on the bike when I bought it. Although the front brakes are loads better after Ged?s work I still feel there is some ?grabbing? at very slow speed so that may need further investigation.
By the way, I?m content it?s a genuine Slaters Mirage. The history shows it as a Mirage going back to the 1990?s, the 1630 frame number is on the Laverdamania register as a Mirage and it has 4C cams but by all means check with Richard Slater if you wish.
This is a lovely example and the paint really pops in the sun. The pictures were taken in April this year and since then the bike has only done around 200 miles.

I?m in Clevedon, North Somerset
I also have a set of genuine Jota Bars which could be available to the new owner. Again, supplied refurbished from Malcolm Cox.
