Hi All, Is there a way of ensuring the side panels on the triples don't fly off when being ridden, the last Laverda triple i had years ago had a discreet hole drilled so a small cable tie could attach it to the frame, i dont really want to be drilling holes unless absolutely necessary...what do you chaps recommend?

Thanks phil.

On my 3c everything is still in original condition. However, from my experience new rubbers are usefull - these make a hell of a difference wrt grip. You can easily test the force that is required to pull off the side covers ...

Cheers,
Jo

You have to be careful with some of rubbers, they are so tight that you can damage the side panel when removing it or so I am told.

Clean the pegs and rubbers with brake cleaner to remove grease and so increase friction. Then give it a pull by hand and see how you feel about it. (oh err missus)

This is how I fixed the problem, forty plus years ago.
Does require a 4mm hole in each side panel, out of sight unless the tank is removed.
Strung with strimmer cord.

Good idea - I'd imagine that this would also work with a kind of hook and a (not to weak) spring - with this both panels could be taken off more easily ...

Both can be unclipped and slid forward, out of the way, for battery removal, etc.
This has the additional benefit of them not being on the ground, where they can be stepped on, cracking them.
Don't ask me how I know that?

Thanks Hamish,
so the panels can be slid forward - but I'd prefer a solution which would also allow to kind of unhook them. I think I'll copy your idea, but would try to integrate this additional function ...

Here are a couple of shots showing them out of the way, Jo.Side panel security 6.JPGSide panel security 7.JPG

Hi Phil. Just an idea for you..... Bmw airhead side panels are partly held on by a big elastic band, between hooks moulded into the panel. Accessible when the seat is up. If you have a route, side-to-side, on your bike you could JBWeld a hook onto the inside surface of your panels and add an elastic band.

That's what I plan on my 3C.
