Mirage - changing bars and footrests

Hi all
Thanks for letting me in to the group.

I've just purchased a 1980 Mirage, it has had rear sets & drop handle bars fitted at some stage & I would like to fit standard foot pegs & bars, also would need new gear & rear brake lever, any ideas where I can get hold of these parts please.

Are Slaters still in business? I've emailed & tried calling the number on the website but says invalid number.

Welcome to LaverdaForum and congrats on your purchase. You've joined us on the day that this site has changed to new software, so it may be a while before you get some replies as users get to grip with things here. Richard Slater has now retired and I understand has recently ceased selling all parts.

I reckon that you should have no problem finding someone who will swap their standard footrests and bars for your rearsets and - I'm guessing - Jota adjustable bars.

I suggest you try first just with the standard type handlebars. Many people find that the more rearward footrests open up the hip angle and are more comfortable even with the touring type handlebar.
 
Hi Chaps

The bike finally arrived last Saturday afternoon, fired it up, sounds lovely!! & put it in the garage, haven't had chance to get out there again & was waiting for what I was told a box of bits & bob's from the previous owner which turned out to be a rare!! Laverda triple book.

So still looking for original foot pegs, brake & gear levers with all the necessary parts plus original bars & possibly mirrors.

I'll have drop bars & rear set available if anybody wants them.

if the rear set kit is a genuine Moto Laverda item, then it is worth a lot of money, well on the way to a monkey and beyond, the Jota adjustable bars are at least into triple figures if in good condition especially chrome wise, and not far shy of it even if in need of a re-chrome.

Whilst looking quite similar to the factory rear sets these are not original. However will still sell for a decent price, est. £150 - 200

The handlebars look to be original, likely to fetch about £150.
 
May I ask why you want to replace the rear sets with original foot pegs? Have you tried a bike with original foot pegs? You may be surprised how uncomfortable they are!
5 piece Brevettato bar can be turned and adjusted to any position and angle, something a straight handlebar can't do.
Niece bike, I'd keep the setup.

I've been trying them since 1976 and found them sufficiently comfortable, and adjustable, that I've never gotten round to fitting rearsets, despite having two pairs in the garage.
Horses for courses, I guess.

5hey look original to me, (sorry long shanks) but with the sandwich plates polished up a fair bit, not all of them have the short nose gearchange shaft and snub nosed gearbox triangle cover, plenty out there with a spline and pinch clamp, instead of the narrower square protruding bolt on shaft.
There is a set on ebay currently, getting near the monkey.

You've only got your toes on the pegs. You'd be better off with rear sets. And you could use the brake and gear levers.
