Perhaps plastic crash knobs might be a better alternative on some bikes.

To match the knob behind the bars? ;D

Adding to the perils of cracking the cases, personal injury can also be an issue in a head-on.  Shins will come off second-best after contact with these types of crash bars.

Having said that, I like mine on the GTL.  Finally, an unobtrusive place to mount the bloody mirror!

When fitting new studs to the SFQ cases I opted for short ones that don't protrude - can't see myself ever fitting crash bars! Have been down the road a few times on the SF and the worst was a busted points cover and minimal damage to the primary - points plate damage likely if it's a heavyish fall. Nothing too severe.
What ... leave it standard??!!

Granted the Crash Bars could possibly prevent you from wasting a fin or two on the cylinders but will never prevent you from dinging the Gas Tank with the Handle Bars - Just don't bend the frame or your body ;o)
