FBB lives...and rides.
« on: September 10, 2019, 21:53 »
Finally its happened. FBB is taxed, mot’d and on the road. Spent last weekend up at keith’s getting over the final hurdle. On Saturday it seemed like it was running quite sweet till keith took it out for a quick test ride. He came back with a boot covered in oil and saying there was a misfire once the bike was under load. The oil leak was from the cover that the alternator cover goes on (not sure what its called) it was warped and you could see where the gasket was leaking from, and the misfire was cured by fitting honda coils. The coils i had were brand new dyna coils, apparently this is the second time keith has had this issue. Satisfied that it could be made right we left keith’s workshop at 20.30 to get some much needed food and rest. Back in the workshop early doors keith stripped off the offending cover, this meant taking all the lovely ignition out,and skimmed 12thou off the face to make it flat. Then he made some new mounts for the honda coils which luckily fitted under the tank in the same place as the dodgy dyna ones. One more test ride from keith and all was well, no misfire and no oil leak. By this time it was gone 16.00 and im getting a bit nervous as i want to ride it but i’ve Also got a 7 hour drive home. Keith was insistent that we go for a quick ride so i threw on my kit and off we went round keith’s test circuit. About 30 miles later we pull up outside keith’s and ten years off sloging away, spending every spare penny i had on the thing is all worthwhile. The engine pulls like you wouldn’t believe, keith said its a good one, even has LS stamped on the Rgs head.
Unfortunately because of saturdays issues we didn’t get a day to play around with suspension and a bit more fine tuning etc so i got it home just before midnight on Sunday. Quite a few little things to sort now before taking it back up to keith’s after a its done 1000 miles to get it set up all peachy on th dyno.
Took it out tonight and did 50 miles or so. Its everything and more i had hoped for, the ergonomics are almost spot on so even with the tiny seat its comfortable. The suspension needs to bed in before further playing with, i could feel it getting better with each passing mile. The clutch was dragging a wee bit so bled it when i got back getting quite a lot of air out of the system. The brakes also need bleeding but there not to bad so will wait till the weekend when i change the oil and take it for its first serious run. A bit of work needed to make it the sum of its parts but its not far off straight off the bat.
So am i happy?.....As a pig in shit ;D ;D ;D

Its all just so much bollox !
