Zappa in Australia!!?
« on: August 22, 2017, 03:20 »
It seems Dweezil Zappa is to tour Australia next Feb playing a lot of the Great Man's best music. Anyone seen him play before? Is he a chip off the old block?

If you get the chance to go see him, I suggest you grab it. What a talent. Saw him play in Edinburgh a few years back where they toured the Apostrophe album & some more. Fantastic!! I have tickets for his Glasgow gig in October. Sold out now I believe.
He's not been playing Franks music for a while due to some dispute within the family, glad he sorted it or he's just decided to go play it anyway.

Effing fantastic stuff. Saw Frank live only once, 1975 in Brisbane (Festival Hall?). Very very big fan of the man and his music. First album I ever bought was Hot Rats.  :D :D :D

Have heard that Dweezil and his band are top notch.

Damn but that was entertaining. Thanks AJ!

I wish this thread had come up a bit earlier. Looking at Dweezil's web site I see I just missed his Colorado dates. Oh well. I saw Frank a couple times, always a great show and fantastic music.

Ive seen Dweezil twice in Oslo, bloody brilliant for anyone remotely interested in Zappa music. There have been some of Franks former musicians in the lineup. The first time I saw him, for the encore they had a film on the backdrop of Frank playing at a concert, splicing his track in to the live concert with Dweezil, it brought the house down. He tours a lot and always seems to include Oslo. The next tour is called "Dweezil plays whatever the fuck he wants", it used to be called "Zappa plays Zappa". The estate has been fairly controversial, even causing the cancellation of Zappa festivals over disputes, no doubt related to money, Frank would have just loved that. Reminds me a bit of the Not the Barry.

Saw Zappa in Brisbane in the early 70s. He was a little too avant garde for me, I was pretty young and hadn't heard much of his stuff. I did like "don't eat the yellow snow", I could understand that, but a lot of his stuff was very American urban and went right over the Brisbane audience's heads.
And moving to Montana? Not today, I think. They're used to the cold there but the last week has been unbearable in most of the northern US. Even in Florida it's still below 10C in the middle of the day, although it does appear that the worst is over.
