Judging by the gaps at the end it was a snorker of a race - the three top fliers in BEARS 4 so close together!! But Smarty ahead of them - yes!!! Go Team Redax!! The three of them even finished ahead of Matty on the hyper Ducatigale!! Good to see that Maurizio, Lisa and Ian came home safe on Day 1.

Mate and I will be there by 10 hopefully tomoz. Any idea what time Race 1 will be? Might have to leave a tad earlier! Reckon the weather might be a bit frier too.

Sorry guys hate to rain on your parade but Matty was actually on the number 2 Redax bike not the FE in the F3 F5 race. So we had 4 Laverdaís circulating.
He started out of 12th in race 2 as the dam rain in the first race meant he took it real easy least as was his first race on it.
Smarty had a massive slight needed to use his right knee as a third wheel to save it so the pesky Triumph got him.
Second race the dam rain stayed away and was a closer event. Give it another couple of laps and there was a good chance that there would have been a Laverda one two. The two triumphs were dicing between themselves in second and third while Matty was carving his way through the field. He got held up for a few laps getting past a big triumph triple but once past the dam thing he realer the others in, in fact he set the fastest lap of the day.
So letís hope the dam rain stays away and Victoria brings out the sun as should be a cracking race. Any Victorian that ainít here tomorrow to witness and would rather be sipping lattes at some show is to use bob Hawkes words a bum.
So get on ya Lavs and ride on up to see the two awesome Redax Laverdaís plus Black Betty and Monty

By the by just quietly seems that only two Laverda riders managed to ride to the track and neither are Orange or even Victorian bikes 🤔 maybe the Vics are way more smarty than us NSWelshmen as they knew it was cold and wet god dam it Vic weather is the pits

Hold on a minute there is a Vic club bike in the pits brother👍👍
True so very too but as they say never let the truth get I the way of a good story......
Didnít the bike with the skitso DNA arrive via a trailer ???
wishing it was a 120  :P :P :P

Anywho no matter how you look at it there were 4 Laverdas out on track racing at the same time in Australia today how cool is that
👀

Also speaking of cool it was really great of the Vicís to put on the spread they did after the Saturday racing for the Redax team. It was a most welcome after the chilly day to spend a few hours in front of the fire enjoying some great hospitality, fine food and cold beers. The potatoe salad was a particular hit thanks Terese for that and thanks to Serge and all the others for putting it on.
So here we are Sunday morning getting ready for what should be some dam fine racing and entertainment from the team Redax riders ably supported by Maurice on Black Betty and Ian on Monty.. four Laverdas on track at the same time I reckon it doesnít get much better than that hey. Great to get tra trackside info Brett. I'm sitting here waiting for my driver to turn up, effing keen to get there asap! Making a lot more sense now that you've explained that Matty was on Paolo's Scorcher. Couldn't quite work out how a 1299R could be F4 and how a screamer like Matt could be behind. Lap times tell the story about the rain. Glad they kept 'em all upright!!

BTW, if I had the SFQ on the road I'd have been there yesterday. Gonna be another two Laverda owners arriving by car today  :(

And even though the Italian steeds are on show about 800m from my door I'd rather watch them being thrashed at Broady TBH.

So Race 1 Smarty started out of 2 by turn one he was in front and only relinquished for a couple of corners when he missed a gear
The Thruxton came home in second and Matty brought number 2 into third with the second Triumph into 4th
So that means we are now 6 points in front so last race will be interesting
Matty actually was quicker from lap 3 onwards than Smarty
even though he was backing off a tad down the main straight due to a slight misfire
Not sure if we sorted it or not  Hopefully Smarty can bring the mule home for a win and a round win oh and the championship

There's the Oz championship Red is going for?
There's been close racing at the pointy end there and it seems like the event has been a great success.
Well done teams and all those involved.

So it was an awesome weekend at Broadford for the final round of the National BEARS F4 Championship. 1st place! Winners are grinners. REDAX LAVERDA  P1 so a just reward for all Reds hard work not to mention the 20,000 odd kilometres that he has driven around Australia in the Van to get the bikes to all the rounds. I gotta tell ya he even managed to crack a smile when it was over. 🏆 😃👍🍻 makes all the hard work over the year by all worth it especially those behind the scenes like Maxene team owner 😃 Mark who does a lot of miles roading in various development updates Paul for staring it all with Rosie, Cosi for being Cosi 😃 shame you werenít there brother as couldnít finish all the Coronas without ya, Matty and Tina for the Van to get the bikes to the track.
Now  I must say that there were a few nervous moments esp on Saturday in race 1 which was wet.
Race 2 was better though and we Then also on Sunday morning with the super close racing in the third race, Smarty it seems was living by the age old analogy of to win you only have to finish in front of the next bike so why not make it interesting for the spectators at the expense of the team watching on the side lines thinking whatís wrong with the bike...😓
Now while it sure does make a good spectacle it does cause some rather anxious moments for those on the side.
To wii in the last race as always he was leaving it a little bit too close for comfort and the Thruxton block past him at the last corner and not even the might of that engine in the mule was enough to get the lead back to the line. Think perhaps he had forgotten the last race was a shortened 4 lap sprint. 🤔
Matty in the 3rd race on Paulís bike finished a well deserved third and really put the cat amongst the pigeons by finishing in front of the up till then series leader in the Triumph but also by doing quite a few laps faster than team rider number 1 even dropping into the 4ís. 💨
Paul was ever so happy to see his bike out on track in fact to see both bikes on track at the one time in anger as in the past he was out there 😃
Just quietly rumour has it when his coaching duties are over that we might see him out of retirement. 🤣
Speaking of which Lisa is just getting better every outing on the Monster and she got down into the 12ís on Sunday. Now Paul (aka the throttle whisperer ) is a bit coy about it but itís mainly down to his guidance that itís happened. Lisa attracts no end of people wanting to give her advice but whilst she listens to them with a smile we all know full well that she only takes on board the advice from her real coach. She be faster next year I just bet 👌
Maurice also put in another sterling performance at his home track with Black Betty which was on song the whole weekend. 👏, we never even had to lift a finger to it apart from fuel and tyre warmers. He was suffering with a bad pain from a bad tooth but still braved it to get out there and put on a performance at his home track. Itís amazing to see that RGS launch off the line.
That brings us to Ian and Monty first time at Broadford and Monty didnít let the side down by circulating all weekend without a hick up so job done all weekend no issues. Guess the only hiccup was with the number two bike Sunday arvo it developed a slight miss fire so Matty being to type of rider with lots of mechanical empathy decided to come in rather than damage an engine..,
He was leading the F1 championship by the slimmest of margins on the big Panni but in the last race got bailed in turn one and relinquished the lead and being that it was only a 4 lap per just couldnít make back the deposit to Marc in front so ended up being pipped in the championship by 2 points. Bugger.
Massive thanks to the VIC LAVERDA CLUB for all of their support over the weekend it was really appreciated by all of us.
Good also that TC numero uno and Yuli were in attendance with Tom plying us with the odd Peroni on Saturday night to ensure we were sufficiently hydrated.
The Vicís even managed to find a bed for TC numero due who arrived late on Saturday night to make it two non Orange Laverdas trackside hmm must have been a bit under the weather on Sunday as didnít see any others there but though lots of Orange shirts or black shirts with Orange writing on them.
Iíll put up a few pics when home but they will pale into insignificance to the awesome ones which Rowdie has already put up.
Bring on 2020 and thereís a whisper that you Vics might be treated to something special next year so 😉 😉

Hi all, itís been a long time since I have posted on here but I need to say a few words. Firstly what a privilege it is to be a part of the global Laverda community and to read all of the words of support.

2019 BEARS was a challenging year for the team and we got off to a difficult start with a crash on the Bevelmanís  bike and a cranky crank on the Mule.

We stuck at it and had to race hard for the rest of the year and it literally come down to the last race of the season.

I have to say a massive thanks to Red and Max, REDAX LAVERDA for allowing me to race their beautiful bike and to Bevelman for allowing me to ride his. Still brings a tear to my eye seeing it slide down the road! 🙈🙈

To come back from 50 odd points down was a testament to the reliability of the REDAX bikes that never missed a beat for the rest of the year.

The final four races were the best all year. Looking at the timing there was nothing between all of us on a sketchy track surface with the changing weather. It was awesome to see the Vic Lav fellas up in the hill with the banner.

So thanks everyone for the support. Brett, Bman, all the NSW fellas, Marty and co riding to SA, Serge and the Vicoís, the CLQ members.

Love ya work. See you on the grid! Smarty

Well wasn't that the best weekend to attend for a long time (another for me probably one in July in Breganze).
The weather had been horrendous leading up to the last round of the BEARs at Broadford with a deep low crossing southern Victoria with day temps dropping to single figures.
The Victorian Laverda Club booked the Harley clubrooms for the weekend and filled it with food beer and a roaring fire, many thanks to Dave Doyle and Serge for organising it, there was a huge amount of memorabilia mounted on the walls and Dave informed us that it was the oldest motorcycle club in Australia (est 1924) correct me if I am wrong Dave.
There were heaps of laughs and great company shared amongst all.
Saturday dawned with threatening weather but being one of the 4 Laverda racers I was on the track rain hail or shine, I remember looking at Smarties slicks and wondering what the weather may do.
The track was dry during qualifying but a modest rain shower cam across during race 1 and the red flags came out and the race stopped as it had earlier been declared a dry track, I managed to get into what was going to be a huge highside coming out of turn 2 thinking the worst then the front let go and the whole bike run off the track and stayed upright and re entered about 30 metres along, the old bum cheeks were clenching up that's for sure
Not being at the pointy end I had a new challenge and that was Lisa nipping at my bum, a bit like a blow fly that you couldn't shake off, she is doing really well cutting seconds off her lap times, wish I was doing the same.
Race 2 was dry and the intensity at the front of the grid was full on as Smarty had one agenda, you have all seen the lap times so just shows the pace set.
Saturday night and all the Laverda team, club members and support crew got together at the Harley club and had a great night, there were many laughs and shit hung!
Sunday morning saw the weather improve a little and the temperature picked up a few degrees so the next two races of the day were going to be exciting I think there were 27 BEARs on the grid with Smarty on the front line he once told me to sit right on his arse so we could squeeze out the Triumphs but I am afraid when he opened his throttle and I opened mine we were in two different universes as his REDAX highly developed bike and my 20 cent racer were at each end of the field, in saying that I enjoyed the fact and found it a great privilege that I was gridding up and racing with these very fast riders.
We all know the end result with a hard earn't victory for the REDAX team so congratulations they don't come easy travelling all over the country.
Bravo to Lisa on the "speedy"Ducati and especially for Ian who campaigned the mighty Monty I hope I am capable of getting out there when I am your age it was great to catch up again mate.
And Lisa I am going to paint a tiny bulls eye on my arse to see how close you can get to it.
A big cheer for Brett he rode to all six rounds including a return to Darwin on his Corsa that he bought there new, you are a force to be reckoned with Brett and one of my great friends!!!!
Four Laverda's out on the grid they all came home safely what a honking weekend!!!!

Great report Morrie. You were out there doing it. Of the ticked boxes you got two priorities right. Don't crash - Tick (just!!), Don't get lapped - Tick. The rest only come if you do lotsa racing, so you've done well. The meeting was a success all round and must be satisfying for the club and racers for all the effort. Kudos

Indeedy, it was the place to be if you like seeing Laverdas go fast and win. My mate and I drove up on Sunday and timed it perfectly as they were setting out on the sighting lap for the first race of Sunday (3rd of 4). Anyone who thinks there's no competition out there obviously hasn't checked the lap times and seen the two very fast modern Triumphs hounding Smarty all the way to the line. The racing was CLOSE! After taking the overall in Race 3, Smarty and the Redax bike finally snuck ahead in the champs ... but only just. in the end Smarty basically had to finish ahead of Mark Balestro on the 900 Bonnie. Mark is a rider whose abilities on a racetrack are clear to see and he's got the runs on the board in various classes to prove it. Rick Fitzimmons on the 1200 Thruxton is also a force to be reckoned with, so the pressure was on. Race 4 was incredible and it sealed the nationals for Red and Smarty.

So glad I was there to witness it. And a sombrero sized chapeau to Red, Smarty, the Redax support team and anyone else who had a hand in a great year. Fantastic to catch up with various crew from assorted parts of the country.

My throttle palm was itchy all day - I need some track days once I get my spesh on the road!!  :P :P :P

It really was a top weekend, good to catch up everyone and Broadford is such a great track, you really get to see some great racing.

Thank you to all
Tom

Well what can you say that has not already been said?  An awesome weekend that had everything a Laverda inspired gathering has to offer.  The exhilaration of watching the Redax Team bikes circulating at the pointy end and being covered at the not so pointy end by Maurice and Ian had to be seen to be believed!

Excellent camera work by Brett and Rowdy Pat has also captured images that will go down in the annals of Laverda history.  Top Stuff!!
The squished image from Pat shows the magnificent view of the track where you can follow 90% of the race from one vantage point.  And this was where the Vic Lav Banner was flying (well strictly speaking tied to the fence) but facts have never got in the way of a good story with Laverdaisti.  ;)
While I am not in the same league as Pat with the lens work I have managed to capture an interesting image.  I will let others tell the story(s).

I don't think it has been pointed out that Black Betty, ably piloted by Maurice the Legend, finished in front of the Ducati Monster (#28) in every race!
Well done Lisa for keeping the pressure on him. While we haven't seen the best from you yet if you keep listening to the Throttle Whisperer the skys the limit!

Lastly, as TC numero due has shown, we are now a Drinking and Darting Club with a motorcycle problem.  Game on!
Best weekend since Droomsby won at the Sheene!
Luvs yas all,
(more pics to follow)

Well I tried to insert links to more photos in the Gallery but have failed.  The best I can do is provide a link to my gallery where I have uploaded more images of the Broady BEARs event.
Cheers, Rod

Great shots.
Hey Ian, I see you suffer from the ĎMonty toe dangleí too! Got any leather/soles left on the front of your boots?  ;)

The foot peg should be your first point of contact...

Marquez reckons your shoulder should touch first, and he should know.

When I get back home from the TT riders associationís annual bash at the national motorcycle museum (when I always wish I had even half the talent of most of the other riders present) I will post a couple pictures showing duct tape is just as effective and a lot cheaper...

Not the best photo from '83 but I think it is clear enough 'getting your foot down' hasn't been an issue...
The next shot from the Manx in '84 (almost a year later), same old boots - just a fresh strip of duct tape - a winner every time... ;)

P.S. Great style in the 1st shot of the guy I am about to pass on the LC. I think he thought he was Olivier Jacque.
