Title: Calendar Costs
Post by: Grant on November 08, 2019, 10:10
Calendar costs have increased this year due to less than 50% of previous years volumes being ordered.

The total cost has to cover origination, set up, materials and packaging.

This year's price for the calendar will be £8.00 each.
Before anyone sends any money I will write to each individual with total cost including postage to their region.
I will try to do this over the weekend.

As usual I will enclose payment options in the message.

Thanks for your swift co-operation.

As I said earlier this will be the last year I organise calendars as I have had enough of herding cats for diminishing orders.
There is a possibility someone else will take over the organisation of the whole process though.

Grant, it's been said before & by many men far more sage than I: thanks for all your efforts, the calendar never disappoints. Put me down for two, please!

A shame to see the demise of the calendar. Your efforts are appreciated Grant. Cost is not a problem, itís a pleasure to have a different Laverda on the wall every month.

If you are serious ....... oh never mind. I had a few snidely comments  ........ best order fast if you want a calendar.

Bob, I thought I already had you down for 2, no?

Cam, is this serious or another of your witticisms?

Order book has closed, photos going to the printer once I source larger format versions.
Waiting on a reply from 5 folk.

Cam, is this serious or another of your witticisms?

Not a witticism. in previous years you had separate threads for voting and ordering. Info on ordering wasn't at all clear which might explain why orders were down 50% on last year. I didn't realise you were about to close the order book. Looks like I missed out. Doubt I'm the only one.

Well I posted very regular appeals for orders.
I wanted orders sewn up before going to print but I can accept your order if you send me your address and order quantity by PM.
There has been a delay while I wait for a few folk still to send higher resolution photos.
Hopefully I will receive them by Monday morning (UK time) and then I can finalise quantities with the printer.

Yes, it's hard to believe the order numbers have dropped so much especially with the brilliant pictures submitted this year.
Title: Re: Calendar Costs
Post by: Grant on November 11, 2019, 09:51
Ok, a grand total of 87 calendars have been ordered, around half of previous years as I said.
I now have all the higher resolution photos I need in order to press the button with the printer later today.

Last, LAST chance to order if you get your order (with address please) to me in the next 3 hours or so.

Thanks to all who have participated in the calendar events over the years.
Title: Re: Calendar Costs
Post by: Grant on November 21, 2019, 10:50
Ok, a bit later than planned but I have started sending out calendar costs to those who have ordered.

Cost includes P&P and payment details.

It will take me some more time to calculate for those who ordered 4 or more calendars (3 people).

I am hoping the calendars will be ready some time next week and I will start sending soon after once you have paid.

Prompt payment will help things run smoothly.

Thanks to all.

Just over 50% of you have paid now, many thanks.

I am hoping to approve the artwork for the calendars early next week.
Printing will then take a few days so, hopefully I will start sending them out before the end of the month.

Target is to complete the printing by end of next week.
As soon as I have them I'll package them up and get them sent off, pending payment of course.

And now 10 left to pay.
At this rate it will be late February before everyone has paid.
At least the postage will be less when I remove the redundant January and February pages.

One year one person took until March to pay up.

There was one year where I got your email address wrong. Thought I paid and all was good until you posted the names of the non-payers.
Might be time to post up the non payers names again...
Title: Re: Calendar Costs

I hope to receive the calendars on Friday so they would be ready to post over the weekend, or Monday latest.
Having got my fingers burned before I now don't send out calendars until payment is received.
It would make things so much simpler if I only need to make one trip to the post office instead of multiples.

The folk who have not paid are regulars here so I would have thought these reminders might be sufficient... Ha ha, made myself laugh with that one.

Thanks for doing this Grant - looking forward to receiving mine down-under.

I did wonder whether it is cheaper to send the print file - PDF or whatever -  to the various countries - say UK, AUS and USA - to get them printed and to save on a load of postage.  Has this been considered?

Cheers, Nick

I leave all the print origination to the print company.
All I do is supply them largest size available, usually 1mb or higher.
I don't think they would want to supply their origination to another printer.

As co-ordinator I contacted all the folk who posted the original photos to obtain larger formats, so that could be done by the new person from wherever they are in the world.

G'day Chris,

I can do the graphics, photo optimisation and artwork to produce print ready files... from input received.

I completely understand Grant's decision and applaud him for creating his calendars. I designed, art worked & edited ILOC's La Vera Vista bi-monthly magazine for 2 years, 2006-8. 30 - 40 hours of my volunteer time for each 56 page edition.

However I'm going to volunteer to do the bits I've mentioned above and pdf proof out for approval, for others to cost, take payments and facilitate. I can liaise with chosen printer/s. Additionally I would want no part in the image selection process.

Best wishes,
James

No, there was a dummy spit about how his emulators needed some updated mountings and were not meeting his expectations. And leaving here was the fix for that. Makes no sense to me. It mystifies me why nickers get so knotted about this stuff. I know blokes who have huge collections of shims and fork pistons for modern bikes and love playing around and get good results and that's fine, nobody tries to hang them for that.

All the calendars were sent out on the same day (Monday) this week.
UK got first class (my treat), not that much more expensive.
The rest of the world got standard rate as it was significantly more expensive to send outside the UK.

In all the years of doing this none were lost in the post (I recall), so just hang in there.

Are you sure that's the Laverdaforum calendar?
Mine has a carbon-effect border and several bikes in the December photo, plus no annotation of whose bike it is.

There probably aren't too many customers further away from Grant than me, unless there's someone in Invercargill still waiting for a calendar.

Title: Re: Calendar Costs

The calendars left here about a week later than normal as I had waited to see if the order quantity would increase.
As a result I guess some have been caught up in the Christmas rush.
Gert, yours had to be sent as a parcel due to the quantity so perhaps it was delayed for that reason.
In the 6 years or so I was doing the calendars none got lost in the post.
Some countries seem to always take longer than others.
I did not pay extra for tracking as this would have pushed up the postal costs.
I suggest we wait a bit longer and if they don't turn up then I have to refund you or find some other way to sort it out.

Ok, I would have thought that if the calendars are going to arrive they will have done so by now.
None have been lost in the post in the last 6 years but they did go out a week or so later than normal this time.

Can anyone who still has not received their order please let me know here?

Thanks.

Today I received a parcel.
Nothing unusual in that, except it was the parcel containing Gert's 10 calendars!
Both his destination address and my sending address were still clearly visible, yet they had decided to apply a large typewritten address back to me.
They were sent around 4 or more weeks ago.
I'll go to the post office tomorrow and ask for an explanation.
And then re-send it.

Apologies Gert, never had this happen before!

Has anyone else still not received their calendars?

I had that same thing with a parcel from Scott Potter.
Reappeared at his place with the indication "address unknown"

He sent it back to me and the original address on the first label was fine.

I had that happen to me, twice with the same parcel, even marked "Sender" & 'To" ............. ended up covering up my details with masking tape.

Gert, you are only missing out on a line up of 30 SFC's, at least you'll be able to enjoy the 10 green 3CL's next month.

Nedlands.  Would have far preferred to be beside the Southern Ocean after Christmas. The last couple of weeks has been in Darwin working.  Kimberleys on the run through was mid 40's every day and the NT was monsoonal high 30's.

Ok, update.
I went to the post office today with parcel, new packaging and receipt.
The cost was actually £39.72 that I paid on 2nd December.

The PO teller said it was sent Parcelforce so they could not help me but gave a Parcelforce phone number to contact.

As Gert wants these by Friday I asked how to get them there by then.
I was told Tracked and Signed, at over £72. I agreed.
Despite being in the EC I had to fill in a Customs declaration form and after that was told I needed to provide a phone number, which I did not have.
Ffffff. took parcel back and returned to base.
Found the number and returned to the post office, got the parcel sent.

So, then I called the Parcelforce number and got the runaround a few departments after listening to endless robots.
In the end I had to go online, download a claim form and it's sitting here waiting to be posted.

Basically a LOAD of work and hassle, for no gain, and if I'm lucky I might get the £39.72 back for a service they did not deliver...
No wonder I have retired from calendar work.

Thereís another street in my neighbourhood whose name includes part of my street. We often receive mail for people
whose names arenít on our door at all. I believe that postal services today place a scanner above the ability to read.

From my calendar example I could see that your parcels were well marked as far as address and sender are concerned Ė
Iím curious to see whether youíll succeed with your complaint!

However, pls let us know, if you are let left alone with the on-costs! We can make a midget collection here then!

Cheers
Jo

No need for that.
I did win one today.

A couple of weeks ago I got another ransom remand from Customs for a parcel from Australia.
I was waiting on 2, an expensive one and a low cost one.
The ransom was for £75 so I assumed it was for the expensive one.
No, the $75 AUD one arrived.
So the ransom was double the cost of the item.
I did some research and found where to download a complaint form so I filled it in and sent it off along with plenty of photos.
Today they wrote to me saying I would get over £50 back.
Result!

<snip> Despite being in the EC I had to fill in a Customs declaration form ...

Small consolation, Grant, but La Poste does the same here for stuff being sent within the EU.   The last time, it was for a package to  Italy.  But it's been Germany before.  And UK, nat'  :)

Does make you wonder just what notion of the European Union they have ...  :-\.  DON'T answer that!  :-*
