Title: SF on Ebay in UK
Post by: Triggermann on November 01, 2019, 09:50
Has anyone looked at this bike?

I was keen until I realised the clocks were not original and the left hand front of the fuel tank seems bent or full of filler?

Auction ended. Interesting that they stress that 11,000 miles should be ignored, as if this is way higher than the 46 year old bike actually has!!!

Why is the twin leading shoe front brake desireable?

I wouldn't call the lav front brake desirable. Had a SF1 for a short time and that convinced me to never buy a bike with front drum ever again.

Judging by the front brake, that SF1 has run way over 11.000 miles...

Iíve seen worse bikes, but that brake urgently needs overhaul.

Because people are putting them on triples?
It's very fashionable.

They can be fined if they misrepresent the mileage so you will see at lot of ads with this disclaimer.

Pretty hard to prove original mileage on bikes nearing 50 years of age. Mine have done hundreds of thousands of km, exactly precise give or take a hundred or so. The treatment and servicing of the bike is far more important than the mile figure. That bike looked like it had been through a sales shining, plenty to pick holes in. I hope it proves ok for the new owner if it sold.

Pleonasm ... hmmm, you got me there, Cam. We'll have to indulge in a game of Scrabble if I ever get down to Tassie ... but with words like that you'll take me out!!

It's my lame attempt at a self-referencing joke. The phrase "tautological pleonasm" is in itself a tautology or a pleonasm, or maybe both.

Military Intelligence is my favourite.
Probably less dangerous than the artificial variety that is currently in vogue.

Not sure exactly precise is a pleonasm but I'm a pedant.  (who likes children....and now, dogs)

I like it too, Vince, but that's actually an oxymoron, not a tautology.

I thought an oxymoron was someone who is useless at gas welding.

No, it is the person that knows that but keeps on welding regardless, a bit like the common arcmoron.
