My brother Tim and I thought about joining you guys, but only briefly. It's a bloody long ride from the bottom end of Tassie, not to mention the cost of getting across Bass Strait.
I reckon I'll save my travel budget for the Phillip Island Classic in January.

Enjoy the ride and stay safe guys.

Cheers,
Cam

Wish I could come, have fun. BTW the real tricky bit isnt the river, its the right turn and step down to the riverbank close to the road especially leaving when the river crossing water dripping off the bikes and wets that climb. That's not so easy when it's wet. Ask Doug R. All part of the fun.

Dougee  8) spent a bit of time by the riverbank and in BKís shed searching for some nuts and bolts to send DOUG on his way!
Has a great story to tell!
Good luck to one and all on the ride and festivities. Have a blast  ;)

Marty check the bushfire app closer to the weekend, the Waterfall Way was closed yesterday because of the fire near Armadale and the weather report for the long weekend is mid-30s up here. Armadle 28c on the weekend.

Title: Re: CLQ October long weekend
Post by: Vince on October 06, 2019, 03:01
Radio silence, no news is good news? The 2 issues like this that have happened to me over the years are sticking sceazed footpeg gear lever pivot, happed 2 or 3 times fixed with WD40 and a strip and regrease at home, seems no one else on earth has had this happen ever and a broked selector spring that still allowed use by lifting the lever slightly and then selecting gears. Someone lost a bolt in the rear set linkage once, easy fix.Anything deeper and its trailer time. Hope Marty hasn't dropped cheesecake on the clutch.
Title: Re: CLQ October long weekend
Post by: Dellortoman on October 06, 2019, 07:30
I've had the M6 bolt that holds the little lever arm on the end of the gear shaft come loose on more than one occasion. It's the type used on the crossover gear linkage with the two flats on the shaft and slotted hole in the lever arm. It only needs to loosen a couple of turns and the arm will slip off the end of the shaft. It's obvious when it happens because the gear pedal dangles down all limp and impotent. Got sick of it happening so ended up Loctiting it in. If it works loose again I'll drill the bolt head and lock-wire the bloody thing.

So we had a wet start to the weekend got to the meeting point and no Cosi wasnt a damn Macca's fueled up and off we headed up a wet Putty Road. Got fuel at Singleton and the rain still persisted in parts but around Greta abated. Somewhere on the way into Dungog round a bend had a close encounter with a skippy which I narrowly missed then hoped that the big 120 Jota of Marty's who was in close proximity to me at the time missed it also. Boy that was a close one. Then brekky at Glouchester and then a run up Thunderbolts which was kind of fun apart from a few cars and a truck causing some delays..Just after Walca I looked in my mirrors and no one behind so I had to do a u turn and came across the stricken moose out of gears. we hypothesized for about 20mins a quick call to Paul for a rescue mission, offered to double Marty the rest of the way but he declined something about the barmaid at Walca was more of interest so we parted ways. Very low cloud into Dorrigo meant vision was down to Zero had a few BMW's and KTM's in front who had their hazaards on which was kind of good in a way but was mindful that if one lemming goes off the road the rest of us might follow.
Got to Bellingen about 5ish and onto the property about 5.30 to meet up with the Qld crew.
Great night
Nest day got roped into cooking up brekkie with Crazy John then got talked into a hangover curing run with Levo on our Laverda's along with his young bloke and a couple of others, found some amazing roads near Bowraville thanks for the tip Bruce.
That night cooked up another storm bloody amazing weekend shame Marty missed it as I reckon he would have helped out by drinking lots more beet to make less to cart back for the boys as there were still a good few full cartoons there at the end.
Trip home was down to one 180 and a sole 120 now....  old road to Nambucca then Pacific to Wooten way then Buladelah to Glouchester and then onto Greshford again god I must love that road ( you know the one that Chris K hates ) then an amazingly great trip back down the Putty with Will in tow... hardly a car in sight except for one or two Mr Plods.
Silver Jota ran awesome all weekend excepting where it just didnt have enough grunt to keep up with Levo's Redax built RGS when he blasted past and i tried to catch back up... though for the trip it used 3/5th's of stuff all oil ............now ready for an oil change

We are off to Bellingen, we met at Kyogle at 9:00 on Saturday morning for a 9:30 leave.
We headed for Casino- Grafton, fueled up and headed towards Ebor. The road was a little slippery on the way up the range, so that slowed me down a bit. When we reached the Ebor-Dorrigo road the cloud was like pea soup, so it was an even slower ride into Dorrigo for lunch. We started heading down the waterfall way when we came across road works, and wet white lines that had to be crossed. Iíve crossed many of these in my days, but this one put me on my arse. My poor old Jota was not rideable anymore. Onto a trailer and down to Bruce and Narz place for another great weekend. Bevelman had sent photos of my damage to Red, who told me to take it to the Redax shed when we got back to Brisvegas, so we got to the shed on Tuesday morning, and Red had all the parts I needed to get it back on the road, within a few hours it was back on the road. I canít thank Red enough, for how he dropped everything to get me going. You one good man Red, and all of us are so lucky to have you in our Laverda world. Iím pretty sure there wouldnít be another Laverda ship in Australia that would do what you have done for me. Thanks again Mate

Great weekend with the Queensland boys and gals at Bruce and Naz's .
Was good to catch up with older friends, meet a few new ones (putting faces to names and nick-names) and enjoy the magical property that is Bruce and Naz's.  Us NSW chaps were made very welcome by the QLDers, and a vast amount of food and drink was at hand !
Waking up the the birds calling fin the surrounding forest and going to sleep with a frog chorus from the river just topped the weekend off for me.

Marty very stoic with his gearless JOTA just out of Walcha.  Felt very strange to leave him heading back into town, but at least he was able to check out the Royal Cafe and the bike owning owners.

I went north to visit friends up north of Grafton, being passed at a great rate of knots by Tom and his partner on their red 180 JOTA in the mountain bends, then coming across Levo and young Jack stopped by the side of the road.  Jack's TRX had decided to sound like a tin can of nuts and bolts.  No further riding possible so was left in a farm for later retrieval.  Jack hopped on the back of Levo's RGS with a bit of luggage re-arrangement.  I'm sure I heard him say to dad - "take it easy".  Maybe Levo didn't hear ?
So an RGS, CORSA and a JOTA continued on, however Levo/Jack stopped before Grafton and Tom very kindly led me through Grafton in 38 degree heat, then to the ferry at Lawrence, where I could cross the Clarence River and get to Maclean.
Thanks heaps Tom, much appreciated - as was the fact the HWP car going the opposite way south of Lawrence was boxed in behind a truck, so didn't get to ping us.

Return on Tuesday afternoon was a good run down the Waterfall Way to Armidale, then Thunderbolts Way with the mountains end in the dark to Gloucester. The wind north of the mountains was crazy, with gusts providing some interesting experiences on the open tops.
Early am return to Sydney.

Another great LAVERDA weekend away.  Thanks again to Bruce and Naz and the CLQLD gang, top weekend.

Yea was a top weekend , a bit of a bummer about Jak's trx , itwas going really well till it wasn't. A big thankyou to  Tony and Chantelle for the use of their van to go and pick up Jaks bike,it would have been a much more difficult job to do if it wasn't for their help. Their was even a bit of comedy in that adventure but I guess that just the life of us Levo's. Jaks a bit down at the moment but he will be good in a year or two.  We are now on a  quest for another 850 trx engine ,so if any of you guys know where we can find one would be a great help.

Also to Bruce and Nars thanks for the great weekend plus CLQ a great group of people'

Apologies Tony,

names I'm not good with, but colours, mmmm.  That is the strangest orange I've seen on a LAV, but no matter.
Great looking and performing JOTA, aided by rider and pillion.

Good to hear the offer of the van was taken up and the young fella has seen the light and knows how LAV owners work together when things go pearshape.

TRXs don't do well trying to keep up with a Motod on the Putty Rd, ask my cousin. It was a bit of a mess lowsiding and sliding into the armco on the narrowest section of the 10 miles. Luckily rider was fine. Very acquired with nowhere to park and assist on a blind bend

Was that your cousin Vince?? I remember that well. I reeled him in and was watching him constantly looking in his review mirror so he put himself under pressure. Cracked an engine cover so we got him to Broke I think then left him for recovery. Gotta watch those Motodds :o :o 8)

Yep, he has one of those massively fast 4 cylinders supposedly off-road BMWs now. His brother came on the last Putty ride we did a month ago. Had some interesting major bike injuries with both mainly off-road crashes, I tend to get the look from there Mum my Aunty at family events.

"constantly looking in his review mirror" BIG MISTAKE. Never concentrate on what is behind you, other than a quick glance now and then (if riding on the road).

5 parade laps at lunchtime at one of the Barrys, 120 vehicles including a VW trike and a couple of sidecars. Some bearing doing the speed limit and some completely berserk and well above there skill level. I got passed by one very fast fellow pulling a crazy line really tight into turn 1 riding a Harley Softtail. Heard later it was Troy Corsa. That was fine, plenty of room, the earlier lap had the 3 and 4 wide boys passing me on both sides. My last time doing that, at least track days have no inside passing rules and people with some experience.

It took 4 laps to know where the blind bends went, and I had zero idea how fast or where to brake for turn 1. If I ever manage to fit into the 2 piece leather suit I have acquired some track experience would be huge fun. I missed the CIMMA track days being away from Sydney this year. The original parade only all Laverdas prade laps years ago, 26 Laverdas was great fun and a hell of a lot safer.

How can you live in Sydney and not do track days Vince? I managed to do a few at Eastern Creek and Oran Park. After seeing the new extended track at Collie I'm keen to start doing a few again, good excuse to get the SFC out again and give the Motodd a serious thrashing. Trouble is it's 300 kays away!!. Also promising is a plan to build a Motoplex in Albany with a track 3.5kays long. I really hope it goes ahead as that's only 120 kays away. Apparently it was an election promise so it'll probably never happen!! Track days are the future of hooning a motorcycle as it's getting seriously fuck up trying to have fun on the roads now. And in WA there isn't many roads that are fun to ride and the few that are are heavily policed, bit like the old road.

No need to have track days in Adelaide or the hills to have fun, if you know where to go  :-X
Title: Re: CLQ October long weekend
Post by: motoddrob on October 16, 2019, 01:23
No Adelaide hills in WA Terry unfortunately. Where I live there is 1 road in and the same road out of town and that's Hwy1 and posted 90km/h for most of it and policed. However there is a farm road that leaves and reconnects the Highway 40 kays long and very rarely see a car let alone cops on it but to have fun your going pretty fast and if you fuck up it's going to hurt. How I long for those 50, 60, 70 kay posted corners. Track days are my only option to have serious fun apart from riding the bush tracks on the GS BM but that's not speed though.

I feel for you over in WA, One of the reasons I stayed in SA instead of moving over to the west with the Collins submarine project (meant to move from Sydney to SA while the boats were built, then to WA when they were commissioned), the two years I stayed in SA opened my eyes as just how good a motorcycling mecca it is, been here ever since. Beats Sydney hands down for motorcycle fun  :D

Vic has some seriously good moto roads, but to avoid the plod you need to move right away from popular bike hotspots and seek the interesting backroads. While track days are fun, brisk riding on backroads, with survival in mind, is a fantastic experience, especially on a well sorted Lav.

WA was always a particular kind of fast riding - but anywhere near a town or on a main highway and you wouldn't last 10 minutes at the sort of speed where it becomes exciting (which happen to be lockup and licence evaporation speeds in today's wonderful world).
