Long time no post --- SORRY SOLD
« on: July 05, 2018, 18:39 »
Hi Folks

My poor old 750 has moved garages twice since I last posted here and is not all the better for it.  I was half way through prepping it for some new paint when I got a new job down in Hereford,  the house we moved to only had a single garage to squeeze three bikes and all my tools and cr*p into, so poor old Lav sat there for eighteen months.  Hooray, we moved out of the city to a lovely old workshop with a house attached for the wife, the only problem is the job, well let's say I didn't Dare or Win, took early retirement from the civil service and now work for myself at www.whitmorectm.com  anyway the long and short of it is that it is finally time (after 30 years) that my beloved 750 found a new home and owner.

The frame is a one off in CDS (Cold Drawn Seamless tube) by Andy Sidlow, with removable subframe.
Front end lifted from a Kawasaki ZXR750H1 and held to the frame by a set of Harris Adjustable Yokes
to push that front end around there is a pair of Spondon alloy clip-ons
both seat and tank are one off items made to fit.
The rear wheel is another ZXR item but this time from a 400, this sprung by a GSXR600 Shock (can't remember the model tho)
The motor is bog standard apart from the ignition, this being one of Volker Sachse fine offerings.

Obviously it needs a fair bit doing (warning a project like this is never ever truly finished, just on the road between jobs)
New paint, the forks are now pitted, free off (at least ) the brakes, new exhaust, new battery and the list goes on only limited by time and depth of pocket.

I do love a god special. One built for riding, John.

Frame is very nice indeed - reminds me a little of the Scorch triples - maybe it's the orange?! Good luck with the sale. Wrong country for me - and building my own anyways.
What ... leave it standard??!!

Blimey. That was a quick sale! You obviously weren't asking enough for it  :D

Nice looking bike.

Andy Sidlow makes some interesting frames. Mostly they look pretty good but I've seen a couple that don't.

This frame looks OK, but I think it has something of an identity crisis. Not quite a perimeter frame, not quite a trellis. Not saying that's a bad thing. Just interesting, and a sensible compromise for an engine with a frame connection on the cylinder head.

It looks better than the original Laverda frame, but to my mind it doesn't quite hit the mark. With a couple of very simple tweaks it could be made quite a bit stiffer in my opinion. But what do I know? I'm only a mechanical engineer, not structural.  :D

Dunno Cam, Stock SF frame is plenty strong and this doesn't look to have any weak spots to my eyes. With the head so solid as a mounting point, there's no real need for a total perimeter frame. I like that the subframe is solid, as the vibes require more than the modern pressed alu and self-tappers!!

John, tell the new owner to join us and keep us informed of the bike's next life. Are we allowed to ask what you got for it?

My lips are zipped, I will leave it to the new owner to introduce themselves,  for me the new home was as important as the price and I'm happy with both.

Yep, who else? Good on you Phil.
The initial attraction to motorcycling inflicts people for various reasons and at different stages in their lives. But once someone experiences the elation of riding a motorcycle there’s no denying the nearly spiritual effect it has.

Superannuation is building nicely Phil.

Hi Davo - I've bought 4 bikes and sold 3 this year - think another one is sold in a few weeks time. So financial and numerical balance will be maintained. ::) Am trying not to buy bikes - but fighting a loosing battle with myself.
P.S. - the "The Sidlow" fired up 1st time after 5 years non-use - mainly due to John completely draining the carbs before laying bike up. - Sounds good and reassuringly excessively loud! - Regards - Phil
