UK Mail Ransom Software Scam
« on: May 16, 2018, 22:32 »
If you are like me you probably buy stuff from Ebay. I have been expecting a number of deliveries this week. I was surprised to receive a number of emails from UK Mail Customer Services advising of a despatched parcel and delivery date. This was a parcel that I was not expecting. I received another today advising that the parcel had been delivered to "Smith" at 13:45. I have no neighbours with that name. All 3 emails had links in which I did not open. Instead I went to the UK Mail website where I entered the consignment number and it also told me it was delivered to Smith.

I Googled UK Mail scams and found out that this is a new scam and opening the link will download some ransom software. For more info check out this link if you dare!

Hover the mouse (don't click) over the link and you will see the actual website address the scammer is using.

The 'link' labeled in the text of the message is easy to alter to anything you wish, including what looks like a genuine site.
