(idea) Been thinking for a while about suggesting a ride meet, week/weekend for us Aussies.

Meet and camp at Bourke NSW - 8 hours from Melb, Syd, Bris, Adl. Sealed roads from each of the pre-mentioned.
Tas and WA is a little further, but that shouldn't matter too much.

This is a good place to camp, out of town as to not annoy the locals too much: http://www.kidmanscamp.com.au/bourke/

Any thoughts?

Eleven hundred from Cudlee Creek, bit more than a day's ride for this old fart, ten years ago maybe.

Not a bad idea Chris, I'd almost be tempted to make a trip of it. But 8 hours from each city is a bit optimistic, unless you're in the habit holding the throttle wide open once you're clear of town limits.

I've found Google maps times to be a reasonable estimate. The times according to Google are ...

12:20 from Adelaide via A32
10:54 from Melbourne via B87
9:15 from Sydney via B55/A32/B71
10:19 from Brisbane via Kamilaroi Hwy/B76

Those are all the fastest routes. If you want to travel on secondary roads it'll take longer.

I dunno about you blokes, but my old bones aren't up to doing 12 hours in the saddle in one day like I used to when I was a young whipper-snapper. If I were doing it, I'd break each of those trips into 2 days. Allowing a couple of days at the camp to get over hangovers, It's almost a week's trip. Plus a couple of days extra for me on the boat from Tassie.

I am having reservations about the coming Tassie ride,10 days straight is quite a bit more than what we usually do even if the Tassie days will be a bit shorter. Bloody hate long straight roads these days but there imposable to avoid.
