Laverdas for sale
« on: February 17, 2011, 17:31 »

Ok for all you people who cant find a Laverda for sale I'm giving you a heads up on three bikes, at least one of which (and possibly two) will have to go. The reason is the imminent arrival of another bike. The bikes are in Portsmouth UK.

One is a '79 green Mirage which I've only just bought and haven't even ridden yet.
Two is a '77 Jarama which is pretty sound but needs cosmetics.
Three is a '75 wire wheeled 3C, dismantled approx 85% complete.

The Jarama has the plate on the headstock for USA homologation but has been converted to rhs gear change. It has the wrong tank and the side panels are shot but it starts on the button and goes well. Apart from the above it is pretty standard and had a very expensive service not many miles ago. It is in use at the moment. UK reg.

The Mirage is very nice and sounds great but I haven't had a chance to ride it in anger.
The previous owner had it 7 years and it is very tidy. Looks like new tyres, chain, sprockets etc. Good paintwork. UK reg.

The 3C is ex-Belgium and has various parts missing but not the major items. They dont come up for sale too often.

All the bikes have matching numbers.

I am prepared to take the bike to a shipping agent if neccessary for you overseas guys although I cant crate anything up. The port of Southampton is close by. I'm not giving the bikes away but a decent offer will buy any of them. The 3C is the one I would least like to sell by the way but who knows? Not interested in swops.

p.m. me with a contact e-mail if you are interested, regards Pat.

I bought my 3C from Pat and the bike was as described, and he was very easy to deal with.
Pat, any pics of the 3C?

Not yet Grant but I'll sort something out when I can. Thanks for the endorsement.
Hopefully I will have my replacement bike in a couple of weeks.  :D

This may be a wild guess, looking at the plates I am assuming the bikes are nowhere near the States.

An early pre-oil cooler 3C.

If it's pre-Oilcooler, it should be somewhere in the range below #1700. If it has Disk-brakes front, too, it must be below #1275, as Piero's files showed only 274 or so Drum brake/no oil-cooler 3C's.

So - what brakes does it have, please, and are my assumptions of the ID-number correct? ;)

Lothar - do you mean:

If it has Disk-brakes front, too, it must be above #1275

Scrumpy,

yes, that is my information. Piero told me that after the first 273 or so bikes, the ministry of transport in Italy forced them to switch to Disks as "a bike with this kind of power needs decent brakes". He went into his factory files and checked the number and said that - if I remember it right - from number 1274 or 1275 on, all bikes had disks.

However, some bikes with lower numbers have obviously been modified to disks, be it by the distributor or one of the (partly many...) owners.
